Here are 8 tips I put together
to help you rock your session…

1. Keep it simplified. Most large/busy patterns (stripes, ribbed, etc), overwhelming accessories, or graphics & logos can be found distracting and won’t photograph well. While all-black or all-white clothes can look flat on even the best dressed, some tips for classic looks would include textured white/plaid/small patterns and other solid colors.

2. Outfit changes. I usually recommend 2-3 outfits (perhaps one more dressy and one more casual, or one more fun and than one your mom loves) and if your passion is sports, feel free to bring your ball and uniform. If there’s something prop-wise that makes sense for your session, throw that in your bag too!

3. Keep it neat. Make sure to bring your outfits on hangers to avoid wrinkles and include accessories and shoe changes ready to go. Your session is time-limited so being prepared will help it go along that much easier.

4. Layers for variety. Layers bring depth and variety to your photos. Switch out a sweater, or take off the button-down shirt and you have a different look for your photos.

5. Be comfortable. If you know you love your outfit and feel good in it, that will most definitely shine through in your photos! Maybe skip the “trendy” styles that you would regret seeing 10 years from now. Ha! 😅 But remember, the focus is on you, not your clothes.

6. Careful to cover up. You’ll be moving around a lot and posing in different ways so just be sure you keep this in mind and avoid clothing/outfits that could show cleavage and undergarments.

7. More is more. Natural-looking makeup lightly applied while avoiding heavy/shiny/glittery makeup will photograph best. Specifically heavy eyeliner tends to make the eyes more squinty. But feel free to bring your go-to makeup, brush, and mirror to reapply. Guys…don’t forget to bring some lip balm too!

8. Ready, set, action! 99% of my seniors aren’t used to modeling, so I make sure to give you actions to create those natural lifestyle photos. But if there’s a specific pose you want to try, feel free to share your inspo or Pinterest pins with me and we’ll try to incorporate them in your session. If not, relax…I got you! 😉
